AN INVERTEBRATE BURN WOUND AND INFECTION MODEL USING GALLERIA MELLONELLA.
In 2020, we have established an invertebrate burn wound model using the wax moth larvae Galleria mellonella. This model has been shown to follow major burn wound hallmarks seen in animal models and humans, such as the increase of mortality with the increase of the burn surface area and the development of bacteraemia and sepsis. Here, we share a recording of this protocol being used to investigate a well-known wound probiotic Lactobacillus spp. This work has been published in Access Microbiology journal in 2023.
